CHEVRON B60 TS
HSCC Oulton Park RJB Trophy : 25,26,27 aout 2007
Qualifications : 10 ème
Course 1 : 7 ème
Course 2 : « DNF »
Meilleur Temps: 1.48.193
V2V – THB Dijon, 23/09/2007
Course 1 : 3 ème derrière la « Lola T 290 » d’Yvan MAHE et la « Lola T90 » de Glen DUDLEY
Meilleur Temps : 1.24.219
Magny Cours SPCC le 05/04/2008
Victoire devant la Lucchini de Fabio Magnani
Meilleur Temps : 1.51.144
Annual Silverstone Race Meeting 27/04/2008
« DNF » : Fuel Pump
Meilleur Temps : 1.03.959
1982 Chevron B60 TS (2L Sports Prototype), Chassis #301 offers for sale.
Following the death of its founder, **Derek Bennett**, in 1978, Chevron went into decline and filed for bankruptcy in 1980. The company’s assets were subsequently acquired by a consortium of Scottish drivers and enthusiasts led by Robin Smith, who founded Chevron Racing Cars Scotland Ltd in Newmains, Scotland.
It was under the leadership of Robin SMITH a Chevron driver and businessman—that the Chevron B60 TS was built. It was designed to meet the demand from drivers wishing to compete in the new championship everyone was talking about at the time: « Thundersport. »
**In 1981**, the BRSCC announced the creation of a new championship aimed at bringing excitement and noise back to British circuits (something the Sports 2000 series had failed to achieve). The series was open to prototypes, Can-Am eligible cars, and Group C2 cars.
Thus, the B60 series was created by Robin Smith during Chevron’s « Scottish period. »
**Between January 1981 and September 1982**, Robin built **six B60 chassis**, initially intended for the S2000 series. Of these six chassis, two were specially prepared for ThunderSports using parts from Formula 2 and/or 2-liter sports prototypes: B60-301 and B60-500C.
The others were intended for the S2000 series or featured varying levels of upgrades: B6001, B60-02, B60-303, and B60-03!
The B60-301 was the first chassis assembled by Chevron specifically for ThunderSports.
It underwent extensive preparation, notably featuring the installation of front and rear suspension assemblies from the Chevron B29, as well as a 2-liter Cosworth BDG engine. Integrating the bodywork chosen by Robin Smith (the B36 style) onto this initial chassis proved challenging, requiring the doors to be shortened to ensure a perfect fit.
The B60 TS demonstrated its excellent potential in the hands of Marcus Pye, followed by David Purley, and finally Robin Smith (at Silverstone in 1984).
At the end of the 1984 season, it was sold to Mr. Lindstrum in Sweden, where it remained for 14 years.
While in Sweden, it won the local ThunderSports Championship two years running and secured over 20 race victories.
It returned to England in 1998, where its new owner entrusted it to Tolman; the car was then fitted with a Hart 420R engine (formerly used by Johansson). In 1999, it was entered in a few events: Castle Combe (March 31, 1999 – 4th place), Silverstone (May 2, 1999 – DNF), and Snetterton (September 25, 1999 – DNF).
In 2005, it was acquired by James Ledamun as a rolling chassis.
He fitted it with a Scholar Ford Duratec 2.0L engine.
James entered it in the following events:
HSCC Oulton Park RJB Trophy (August 25–27, 2007)
Qualifying: 10th
Race 1: 7th
Race 2: DNF
Fastest Lap: 1:48.193
V2V – THB Dijon (September 23, 2007)
Race 1: 3rd place, behind Yvan Mahé’s Lola T290 and Glen Dudley’s Lola T90
Fastest Lap: 1:24.219
Magny-Cours SPCC (April 5, 2008)
Victory ahead of Fabio Magnani’s Lucchini
Fastest Lap: 1:51.144
Annual Silverstone Race Meeting (April 27, 2008)
DNF (fuel pump issue)
Fastest Lap: 1:03.959
In December 2009, it was acquired by its current owner, who undertook a complete restoration. Between 2010 and 2012, it won the Saloon Car championship and every other race it entered in the YTCC, with the exception of the 2011 Le Mans Story, where it ran out of fuel.
In 2013, it was completely stripped down and rebuilt by a French specialist (Château Sport Auto), this time fitted with a 2.0L Ford Zetec engine.
In 2015, it competed in the VdeV series, winning the title in the Proto category.
In 2022, it was entrusted to Hervé David for yet another ground-up restoration, this time with the goal of returning to its roots—specifically by installing a Cosworth Richardson engine. Both the engine and the Hewland gearbox (fitted with a new crown wheel and pinion) were overhauled prior to installation.
In 2025, the Chevron B60 TS was entered in the 200 Tours du Castellet; after setting a very strong time in practice, it was forced to retire just 15 minutes into the race due to a broken alternator belt—the only component that had not been replaced during the restoration.
It has not raced since, as the owner chose to focus on a new project.
